To all friends and members of the Longmont Amateur Radio Club    

    

Plans are coming together for our club to sponsor a 'Ham Radio' activity station at this year's Cub Scout Day Camp. The Camp will run from Tuesday June 19 thru Friday June 22 in the Boulder County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building. We are looking for 4-8 volunteers who would like to help introduce Amateur Radio and related topics to some Webelo Scouts (4th & 5th graders) during camp. The plan is to man a 'station' where groups of scouts (accompanied by adult leaders) will stop by our location at specific times, for 30-45 minutes, to see something of what Amateur Radio is all about. The plan is for these visits to happen at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 2:00 and 3:00 each day of the 4 day camp. Initially we would like to have volunteers signup for a 4 hr block of time but certainly everyone is welcome for any amount of time they might have available.       

      

Currently we have planned to have a VHF/UHF station with which we can demostrate QSOs over IRLP, an HF station that we can use to demonstrate SSB and PSK31 communications, and a couple demonstration boards to provide examples of various electronic components and the construction of simple circuits.        

     

The goal of this activity is to generate some interest in Radio, Electronics, Communications, and Science in general to a bit younger audience than usual and should be a lot of fun. So, if you have the time and the inclination, please consider volunteering for at least a 4 hr block of time that week. Also feel free to pass this note along to others that might not be on this informal distribution list. It is certainly open to anyone interested in Ham Radio and the education of youngsters.
