VOTA – Veterans on the Air – Net starting in October

VOTA – Veterans on the Air – Net starting in October

I am currently working on building up a program for veterans with the mission of connecting veterans through radio related hobbies. We are currently planning on running a monthly net starting October 22, 2024 at 1800 hours on the Longmont Amateur Radio Club Repeaters. Each month we will be hosting a different topic that is heavily applicable to veterans. For the October net we will be discussing the topic of ‘cool places the military sent you.’ Although we will not be checking or actively excluding participation in the net from non-veterans, the net is particularly tailored for veterans to be able to connect. Ideally, we will be able to reach more veterans through echolink and broadcastify, and it is the goal that each net we are able to help a veteran that is struggling, even if we never know about it.

Nets will be held on the 22nd of each month at 1800 hours.

LARC Fox Hunt – Trying something different….

September 28th, 2024 – Noon to 2PM somewhere in Longmont

What do you mean somewhere in Longmont Chuck (K0ITP)? Well this fox is a sneaky one and wants you use different technologies to locate it.

The Fox will transmit an APRS signal every 15 minutes with the callsign W0ENO-9 to give you an idea on where to find it on APRS.FI

The reason for the 15 minutes is the fox is going to move within a certain area. It will only stay in its spot for about 7-10 minutes.

It will be broadcasting the regular signal to be listed on the APRS.FI website when you locate W0ENO-9.

Hope to see you out there locating the fox.

Please contact me for addition information.

Once you have found it take a picture and send to foxhunt@w0eno.org

Help Needed for CU Boulder Buffalo Bicycle Classic, September 8, 2024

The CU-Boulder Buffalo Bicycle Classic needs volunteers (at least 1 more this year) to help with communications along the Peak-To-Peak Highway between Nederland-Allanspark-Lyons. There’s no cell phone service along that route and they need ham operators to relay information and to assist any bike riders that need assistance.

It’s on September 8th this year. They start around 7 am in Boulder and should finish by 4 pm in Lyons. They were thin last year and are down another ham this year. If you have a bike carrier, that’s great, but not required. We just need people to be able to drive back and forth for a few hours and look for anyone needing help.

We need help with the Epic 75 and Epic Buff routes.  For more info on the event, see their web site at: https://www.colorado.edu/event/buffalobicycleclassic/

NCARC HF Hamlet / HF in the Park

NCARC HF Hamlet / HF in the Park

The Northern Colorado Amatgeur Radio Club, NCARC, is repeating their popular “HF Hamlet” / “HF in the Park” event Friday, July 26th at 6:30pm at North Lake Park, Shelter #2 in Loveland, CO (more information is available on their signup page).

This seminar is FREE to anyone interested in HF amateur radio – you do not have to be a member of NCARC or LARC or even have a ham license. There will be a short briefing on HF ettiquette (what to do and not do), followed by many demonstrations of the HF frequencies. The LARC GoBox will likely make an appearance as well.

The seminar will be informative and should be a lot of fun!

If you are planning to attend, please signup by clicking HERE so we can get an accurate headcount.

Echolink Down

Echolink Down

Our Internet connection at the Longmont Justice Center is currently down. Unfortunately, this means our repeater system is not accessible via Echolink.

We currently don’t have an ETA as to when this will be fixed.
