ALL CLASSES ARE CURRENTLY ON HOLD DUE TO COVID

The next General Class license is the second Amateur Radio license. To upgrade to a General Class license, you must already hold a Technician Class license (or have recently passed your Technician license exam) or another eligible license or can take both exams at the same sitting. Upgrading to a General License opens up an entire range of operating modes and extensive HF privileges, and the majority of the amateur radio spectrum below 30 Mz for you.  Taking this class without the prerequisite Technician License requires the Instructor’s permission, so be sure to ask first if you desire to do this.

You can also get a General Class License if you hold/held a previous older type of license that is expired or current.  Please contact us for more information about this if you are interested.

Our next General Class begins on Monday, February 24th, 2020!

It is a 36-40 hour class, scheduled in a three hour per evening, twice a week format and including five Saturdays.  Extra snow-days / demo days are built into this schedule due to the season.  The cost for this class is $35 for 2020.  Register NOW and Reserve Your Seat!

** You must register for this class in advance, as seats are limited.  Seats are not guaranteed until the class fee is PAID or you have corresponded with me.  **  Registration fee is non-refundable.

An ARRL exam session is scheduled on the last day of this class, at 1:30 p.m. in the same location, by ARRL Volunteer Examiners.  This is a separate part of the class and requires a separate test fee of $15 made out to the ARRL VEC for this exam.  You should be ready to pass your exam at this test session after the end of this class.  For more information about the Exam & what to bring, see the Licensing/Testing link on the left.

Prerequisites: Technician Licensing Class (or equivalent) or FCC Amateur Radio Technician License.  Commitment to studying and learning the required material to pass the Amateur Radio General License Exam to upgrade your license.  (Other entrance exception with instructor permission.)

Required Textbook:  ARRL General License Manual, 9th Edition  (see below).

You must register for this class in advance, and you may purchase the spiral-bound ARRL General License Manual with the instructor discount for $26 from the instructors along with your payment for the class.  You are, of course, welcome to find it elsewhere or in other (i.e. electronic) formats, but make sure you can access it in class as well.

If you will be getting your manual elsewhere, be sure that you have the new Ninth Edition that covers the question pool that is valid through 6/30/2023.

Preparation and reading of class material is expected prior to each class (except for the first day), as specified in the Syllabus you will receive on the first day of class.  This class requires commitment on your part to study on your own and show up for the classes and/or makeup sessions, as there is a lot of material to cover for this exam!
